About Dr. James Faghmous Ph.D.
James H. Faghmous, Ph.D. is the co-founder of Practical Muslim, a media and educational company supporting the most ambitious Muslims in politics, technology, sports, and entertainment. He is the author of the forthcoming book "Spiritual Intelligence: 10 Spiritual Principles to Thrive in the Age of AI."
Before becoming a coach, James co-founded one of the first AI and global health startups in 2014 with Dr. Abdulrahman El-Sayed. Backed by $30M in funding, James launched ATLAS, one of the first AI tools for global health, combining high-resolution satellite imagery, deep neural networks, and human-in-the-loop review to deliver care to remote communities around the world.
In 2016, James founded WSDM.AI, one of the first AI product consultancies. Since then, he has worked with portfolio companies from the largest U.S. VC firms, including FirstMark, Upfront, and YC. James was also Head of AI at two separate billion-dollar companies: IPSY, where he helped take the company from $500M to $1.3B in revenue in 18 months, and Daily Harvest (acquired by Chobani). He has lectured on AI and building consumer products and subscriptions at Columbia, MIT, Stanford, and USC.
James was selected as one of the "50 Most Influential Muslims in the Americas" in 2023 and 2024 for his unique blend of entrepreneurship, spirituality, and advocacy for Palestine.
